HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I fell in love with the company (Heartland Payment Systems) and their principles of treating business owners fairly. I have a B2B sales background and it was so important that I sold a product that I believed in as well as had a team to back me up. Heartland fit that bill perfectly!
WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
To be honest I am not sure most people understand much about my industry except that it "costs" a lot of money to take a credit card. Fun fact, most of the fees that a business owner takes to accept a card go to the issuing bank not the processor or the card brands.
NAME ONE THING THAT YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
I wish people knew that there are a lot of people who do what I do but very few do it in a transparent and honest way. It is interesting to work with a new business owner that says, "you are all the same" but by the end of the conversation, he or she is shaking my hand and thanking me for all the tips/tricks I taught him/her even in a first meeting. Similar to insurance, payment processing isn't the most glamorous thing to chat about BUT it's so important to have a trusted partner to rely on.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Working with entrepreneurs, seeing their businesses grow and developing lifelong relationships.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Pick a company you believe in, ensure they have a good solid training program, and be resilient and determined.
