Greendale class of 2022 Sneak Peek | Nick

This is the second senior session I’ve had this season with a CLASSIC CAR. No complaints here, I’m totally digging it! I mean, it’s super cool, of COURSE, but also one of the most fun props to work with. On top of the sweet looks of a classic car, it’s been fulfilling to hear about how, in this case, Nick, is helping his grandfather refurbish the car. In fact, just a few weeks before his session, they actually got the car running for the first time in years.

So yes, it’s a prop. But it’s also a part of Nick’s life, expertise, and relationships. This is the PERFECT type of thing to share the frame with.

Nick, I hope you like your Sneak Peek. This is one of MANY amazing shots we got last week.

Nick and his grandfather’s 1957 Chevy got me thinking about “props”.

First, you must know, I kinda don’t like the word “props”. It reminds of those giant, oversized numbers from the 90’s that you’d have to lean on in your corny senior pictures. This is NOT what I want for you!

So, these “props” really should be items that have significance to you. Whether it’s something you love, something you use, something you admire. You may love your baseball mitt (and use it on the field), you may use your pompons, you may admire your grandfather’s old car. Whatever it is, if it’s meaningful to you, let’s use it!

There are tons of props you can bring to your senior portrait session, but here are a few favorites:

11 PROP IDEAS FOR SENIOR PHOTOS

1. Sports jersey and equipment

Do you play a high school sport? Bring along your jersey or uniform and some of the equipment you use. These props are a great way to express what mattered to you in high school and how hard you worked at your athletic career.

2. Musical instrument

Maybe your interests are more musical in nature. Why not take a few photos with the instrument you play? These images always turn out beautifully and are a great reminder of your skill and all you’ve learned as a musician.

3. Books or other academic materials

Are you a straight-A student? Bring along some of your study materials to show off your academic side. Or, if you love to read (you’re speaking my language!), include a few of your favorite books as props in your photos.

4. Four-legged friends

Whether you love dogs or horses, there are a variety of ways to include your pet in your senior portraits. Let’s talk about how you can make your pets part of the senior photo experience. (Please note that this photographer has a 4-leg limit on pets. Eeek.)

5. Personalized signs

A sign announcing your graduation year is a great prop to include in your senior portraits. These photos make for fun graduation announcements and give you a chance to have a little more fun! (If this sounds like something you’d like to try, let me know. I’ve got a felt letter board I can bring to your session.)

6. Sentimental items

Do you have a family heirloom that is personally important to you? You can include these sentimental pieces in your senior portraits to show off what matters most to you and make your photos even more special.

7. Balloons or confetti

If you want a splash of color in your photos, consider bringing along some balloons as props. We can even do a fun confetti toss! Both of these props are a great way to add pops of color to your images.

8. Accessories

Hats, scarves, sunglasses and other accessories are a great way to add variety to your photos, allowing you to get multiple looks without having to change clothes. Show off your personality with a favorite accessory—maybe even one featuring your school mascot or colors!

9. Your vehicle

Do you love your car? Why not include it in your senior portraits? There are plenty of ways to incorporate your vehicle into your photos - and don’t you worry - it’s my job come up with fun poses and angles.

10. Career goals

If you already know your major or career plans, showcase it in your senior portraits. Show off the tools of your future trade or take a photo in front of a business, office or vehicle you hope to work with one day in the future.

11. Suitcases

If you have plans to travel, include some luggage in your photos to show how you’re going to take the world by storm!
