Local Business Spotlight | Ali Gully

Ali Gully

Ascent Astrology

Chief Stargazer and Personal Life Navigator

Who is your ideal client?
Someone who is at a crossroads in their life and wants to do something different for a better outcome.

How did you get started in your field of work?
I opened my first astrology book when I was 11.  After 20 years of being a therapist and 30+ years of astrology studies, I figured out a way to sync my two talents.  I adore helping people get to new flashes of insight about their lives.  I can impact an individual more in one astrology session than in 3 months of therapy.

What is something people THINK they know about your job?
It’s not just the sun sign!  It’s so much more than the horoscope in the newspaper.  There are 10 planets and their angles and their positions in time and space that influence everything.  I take the chart of the sky the moment you took your first breath and decode the narrative of your natal talents and life path.

Name one thing you WISH people knew about your job?
Astrology is not fortune telling and it’s not fate.  It’s the ongoing planetary cycles interacting with your personal chart.  I give you information so you can make better life decisions.  Having a personal astrologer is an ongoing relationship.  I get consulted for relationship topics, parenting strategies, fertility, weddings, career decisions, and even year ahead forecasts.

What do you love most about your job?
My clients

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your industry?
Read a ton and find a mentor already in the field. Get a professional reading to see if they are a good fit for you.

What is the ONE book that you think I should read RIGHT NOW?
"The Essential Guide to Practical Astrology" by April Elliot Kent. Its a wonderful introduction book and her writing has a lot of humor.

Anniversary on the Lake | celebrating 50 years

Celebrating an amazing life together, a beautiful family and FIFTY wonderful years.

This is one of the reasons I love photographing large families.

Oftentimes there is a celebration of some sort - whether a holiday or an anniversary - and I get to be a part of their day and help build the memories that will hang on their mantel.

Happy anniversary to this energetic and spunky couple, Sharon and Werner, on fifty years of marriage.

Is your family celebrating something? Is your family together for the holidays? I still have a few dates open through the rest of the year. Yes, you read that right. Through the rest of the year. Check out my calendar HERE.

P.S. Would you please just take a second and look at Sharon and Werner’s PERFECT WARDROBE COORDINATION? This is an absolutely adorable and ideal mix of color coordination yet not matching too perfectly. Gold star for you!

Fall Family Photos on the Trail

I fell in love with this family at their session. The sweetest mom. The rocker-ist dad. The most doting daughter. They gel together so beautifully. A total unit of three. I loved watching them interact.

They laughed and talked and totally watched out for each other.

Here’s a peek into what I witnessed that day…

This is one of the things I like so much about photographing families: I get to experience their personalities and dynamics and interactions - both naturally and “staged”. Once in a while I’ll ask a group to “pretend to have the most interesting conversation in the world”. But then they REALLY do. (see above!)

It’s magic.

I can’t wait to share the rest of this Laura and her family’s images with them at their Reveal + Selection Appointment. I have a good feeling about this family.

Are you thinking about Fall Family Portraits? Don’t wait… run to the nearest phone and call me. Fall is quickly landing on the ground and being swept up by leaf collectors. Plus, I have very few openings remaining.

Hurry! Run don’t walk to your phone and call me. 262-366.7980

Cooper's Senior Portrait Sneak Peek | Earth, Wind + Snow

Last weekend, Cooper and his mom, Gretchen, came to the studio for some indoor senior photos. We did an entire set there. Dry, warm and un-ruffled.

But Cooper really wanted to go outside. Why not? I was game - my equipment would have to be minimal, but I could definitely make it work. (And my hair/mop was bound to be in a ponytail anyway!)

If you recall, you know the strange combination of weather we experienced. On the way to our location, while the winds were already peaking at 40 MPH, it then started to rain.

Then… it started to snow.

THEN it was just a smooshed up version of rain and snow. Blowing right into Cooper’s face.

With that being said, I am thoroughly impressed with Cooper’s Academy Award-level acting skills. This Sneak Peek I’m sharing is really great. And he had WEATHER coming at him. You’d never know it — look at him!

BRAVO! Way to go Cooper!

Tosa East HS class of 2019 | (another) Jack's Sneak Peek

This is my second Jack H. of the 2019 senior season. Really!

This Jack is a sweet, quiet kid. He was so agreeable… I could have asked him to stand in the middle of a busy street and I think he would have agreed. (Oh, but I wouldn’t!)

Jack and his mom, Wendy, wanted some traditional spots in Tosa as the setting for his senior portraits. This is one of them… can you guess where we were?

Do you still need to get on the Senior Photo Train? I know your stomach just leaped into your throat. But I promise you - it’s NOT TOO LATE! The Wauwatosa high schools have yearbook deadline of NOVEMBER 9. Some of the private schools are as late as January. See? We’re good!

Here - I’ll make it easy for you. Fill out these answers…
