SESSION LOCATION
Jacobus Park
Every fall, there's a window — maybe two weeks, if we're lucky — where the parks around the Milwaukee area go absolutely wild with color. Golden yellow, burnt orange, deep red. Nolan caught that window perfectly, and his session at one of my favorite local spots is proof that the right location makes everything.
But here's the question I get all the time: "How do I even pick a location?"
Good news: you don't have to figure that out alone. Here are five things to know about choosing the perfect spot for your senior session.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR YOUR SENIOR PHOTOS
1. You don't have to come to the consultation with a location in mind — that's what I'm here for.
Choosing a location is one of the things we tackle together at your Pre-Session Consultation. I'll ask about your senior's personality, what they love, what makes them feel like themselves, and then I'll make recommendations based on that. You don't need to have a Pinterest board ready. You just need to show up.
2. There is genuinely a location for every kind of senior.
Athletic kid who'd rather be outside than anywhere else? I know the spots. Senior who's more artsy and wants something with texture and character? Got it. The one who just wants something clean and classic that'll look good framed above the mantel? Yes to that, too. The greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County area has incredible variety — wooded parks, open fields, urban backdrops, lakefront views - and I've done sessions at SO many of them.
3. Seasonal timing matters more than you think — and I'll help you plan around it.
Nolan's session is a great example. That golden fall color? It lasts maybe two weeks. If we'd waited another week, we'd have been looking at bare branches. Knowing when to book — and which locations peak at which times — is something I guide every family through. Spring, summer, fall, even winter indoor sessions — there's a right time and a right place for all of it.
4. "Local" doesn't mean "boring."
One of the things I love most about photographing seniors in Wauwatosa, Brookfield, Elm Grove, New Berlin, and the surrounding area is that we have stunning locations right in our backyard. The rustic wooden staircases and winding paths at Nolan's park felt like something out of a magazine — and it's mere minutes from home. You don't have to travel far to get something extraordinary.
5. The location sets the tone but your senior's personality is what makes the photos.
At the end of the day, the backdrop is just that: a backdrop. What makes senior photos matter is capturing who your kid actually is right now, at this exact moment in their life. Nolan's easy smile and relaxed energy would have been great anywhere. The fall foliage just made it unforgettable.
Nolan, it was such a joy to spend that golden afternoon with you. The Wauwatosa East Class of 2026 is in good hands. Congratulations!
