WHAT TO WEAR:

—If you would like some "sitting" photos or 3/4 length shots, or even full-length shots, wear a full wardrobe, down to the shoes.

—If you want more traditionally cropped headshots, the photos will be torso-up. In other words, all that really matters is what you wear on top. (Jeans or shorts are a-ok!)

In general, you'll want to dress for the best day on your job - or for the job you’re trying to get.

Here are some basic suggestions to consider when preparing for your headshot:

  • Solid clothing photographs better than patterns. If you prefer patterns, at least try to avoid horizontal stripes. (This rule does not apply to ties.)

  • While you don't have to be boring, traditional colors are better for headshots than bright, over-saturated colors.

  • Minimal jewelry (or none at all) allows the focus of the photograph to be on your face rather than your fashion sense.

  • Wear something you are comfortable in. If you feel really uncomfortable and stiff, the tension will show in your face.

  • If you wear makeup, apply it a little bit heavier for your photo shoot.

  • If you don't wear makeup, don't start now! :)

  • Clean your glasses.

  • Floss.
