Milwaukee-Area Family Portrait Photographer: What to Know Before You Book
What's the number one thing families tell me they regret?
Waiting.
Not the cost. Not the hour out of their Saturday. The waiting. The "we'll do it next year" that turns into five next-years, until suddenly the kid who fit in your lap is taller than you and the moment in time you meant to capture is gone.
So if you've been typing "family portrait photographer in Milwaukee" into a search bar and then closing the tab...this one's for you. Here's what's actually worth knowing before you book.
The Milwaukee area is full of gorgeous places to shoot, and you don't have to pick. That's my job. Local parks, wooded trails, the lakefront, a neighborhood that means something to you, or my Brookfield studio when Wisconsin weather decides to be Wisconsin-ish. We figure out the right spot together at your consultation, based on your family's vibe...relaxed and natural, a little more polished, or somewhere that's personally yours. Outdoor family portraits across Milwaukee and Brookfield are some of my very favorite sessions to photograph.
Timing matters more than people think. Fall fills up fast (September and October book out months ahead), so if you want golden light and changing leaves, reach out early. Summer and late spring have plenty of openings with a little less lead time. And winter studio sessions are an insider’s secret...warm, cozy, and zero weather drama.
Your kids do not need to be on their best behavior. Please hear me on this. I have been doing this long enough to know that real kids have real bad days, real meltdowns, and real opinions about being told to smile. I plan for all of it. Some of the most beautiful images I've ever made came from the in-between...a kid mid-giggle, a toddler getting scooped up, the actual look of your actual family. That's the stuff worth framing.
Choose someone who does this for a living, not someone with a nice camera. I say that with love for every cousin-with-a-DSLR out there. A professional family portrait is a different thing. I'm a Certified Professional Photographer through Professional Photographers of America, I've earned multiple Top Choice Milwaukee awards, and I've been photographing families in this area for over a decade. Not to brag (the trophy shelf is small but mighty). Just so you understand that your photos are in steady hands from the first phone call to the day they hang on your wall.
Which brings me to Dana.
Dana made sure she didn't have a blank wall before her youngest left for college. She gathered everyone, we made the photos, and now there's a piece of art in her home instead of an empty space where her whole family used to be. She did the thing. She didn't wait.
Be like Dana.
Your family is changing every single day, whether or not there's a camera around to notice. Let's put something on your wall that proves they were here, exactly like this, exactly now.
Quick, before they grow up. (I mean it.)
