Class of 2020 Sneak Peek | Maeve

This quiet girl may not say a lot with words but holy cow, her eyes speak volumes.

Allow me to introduce this beautiful and naturally graceful girl named Maeve.

At our pre-session consultation, Maeve and her mom inquired about makeup. She doesn’t wear makeup and really didn’t want to for her photos.

Here are some pros and cons about getting makeup done for your senior photos. If you can’t decide, maybe this will help sway you….

PRO MAKEUP:

  1. Your skin will look so clean and clear. (Truthfully, this results in a LOT less retouching work for me whether or not you have acne.)

  2. Senior portraits are a special occasion - why not go all out? New outfits, hair and makeup appointments and lunch with mom afterward.

  3. Your confidence will simply SOAR knowing how especially gorgeous you look for your session.

NO MAKEUP:

  1. If your skin is already clear, you have nothing to hide! And if it’s not perfectly clear, so be it. (That’s what retouching is for.)

  2. If you don’t usually wear makeup, don’t start now. These photos should show the REAL you. I want you to look back on these portraits and be proud of them, not embarrassed at how much makeup you were wearing.

  3. If you aren’t used to the feeling of cosmetics on your face, you may end up more uncomfortable than anything else. This strain will show in your photos and we sure don’t want that! I want you to look comfortable, happy and relaxed… and like YOU.

So what do you think? Which camp are you in? Nothing’s wrong with either one. It truly depends on your personality and personal preferences.

Either way, I’d love to chat about your senior photos and learn about your hopes and expectations for your senior portraits. Give me a call, text or email. Be sure to check out the information page on senior photos.

Class of 2020 Sneak Peek | Lucas

I had an ACTUAL PRINCE in my studio last week!!!

No, not Prince Harry.

Not the Artist Formerly Known As Prince.

Nope, not even Prince Charming.

PRINCE ERIC came to me for his senior photos. Can you believe it? Ariel’s One True Love picked ME!

(Okay, well, I suppose he just played Prince Eric on stage.)

This is Lucas. A funny, charming and talented actor. A proud member of the Tosa West Class of 2020.

Lucas popped in for a quick, weekday session in the studio. He wanted fast and simple and a great yearbook photo to boot. Have you heard about the Senior EXPRESS Sessions? Learn more on the “high school senior” page of the website.

Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
After 20+ years in the radio industry, I decided to take my experience in branding, events and marketing strategy and open my own business. Now, I get to help small business owners build their companies.

WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
For the most part, people believe that marketing is about coming up with a clever way to tell people about your business. It's not. Marketing is about coming up with a clever way to express the BENEFIT of using your business. So, instead of talking about your business, you need to talk about how your business helps solve a problem for the customers. The magic phrase "WIIFM - What's In It For Me?"

NAME ONE THING THAT YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
Time spent on strategy saves 10x the hassle on execution. If you don't have a solid plan, you're going to waste a lot of time, energy and money trying to grow your business.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I get to work with inspired business owners every day!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Listen. The answers are with your customers, not you.

WHAT IS THE ONE BOOK THAT YOU THINK I SHOULD READ RIGHT NOW?
The Consulting Bible - Alan Weiss

Class of 2020 Sneak Peek | Justin

Heat Advisory, Shmeat Advisory.

Justin was an absolute champ during his senior portrait session. We roasted in the summer heat (yes, with an advisory) but he was calm, cool and collected.

Truth be told, we were winging it: if it got to the point where he was looking overheated, we would have stopped and finished his session another day.

Like I said, he was a total champ.

Justin, thanks for a fun afternoon… in the shade. Here’s your Sneak Peek.

One of the top questions I get asked is about wardrobe changes.

I once got a call from a mom who was comparing photography studios. She told me that the other photographer would allow for SIX wardrobe changes. I told her, sure, if that’s what you want, I’ll allow it too. “However,” I asked her, “you said you have a son, right? Will HE allow six wardrobe changes?”

They ended up choosing me (yay!) and her son went with just two outfit changes.

Whether you are comparing photographers or simply planning your session, think about what you REALLY want. Consider what you’re envisioning versus what is realistic. I can help you decide - from clothing options to image selections. That’s why you hire a professional photographer.

The bells and whistles and exciting offers may be great, but the most important thing is that you are getting an end result like Justin’s photo above: one that you will cherish for years to come.

Sneak Peek for the Spring kids

I decided, since we were supposed to meet for their BIG REVEAL last month, that I wasn’t going to post a Sneak Peek. It all happened so quickly and I couldn’t wait to show mom how the beautiful portraits turned out - in person!

But then, life happened, and Mara had to reschedule our reveal appointment. We still have a week until mom will see their images but I just can’t make her wait that long!

As a mom, I totally get it. It’s hard - not knowing if anything good will come the from your family’s session. You can’t see what I, the photographer, sees through the eye-hole of the camera, into the lens and out into the frame of the shot. Rest assured, Mara. Your kids are STUNNING.

See for yourself…

Children’s Photographer Tip

Do you have an upcoming session for your kids? There are a few things to remember when you tote your kids to the studio or the park for the big day…

1. YOUR KIDS WILL LISTEN TO ME. Your kids will listen to me more than they will to you. Why? I’m not their mom. That’s just kid nature. It happens with my own kiddos. If you ask any preschool teacher, dance instructor or babysitter, it’s the same story. Mom walks into the room and everything changes.

2. I HAVE SOME GOOD OL’ TRICKS UP MY SLEEVE. I’m no magician, but I do have lots of experience photographing kids. As your photographer, my primary goal is - yes, to make YOU happy - but at that moment, I want the attention of your kids so that I can show the world just. how. adorable. they. are. I’m constantly brushing up on my skills by attending workshops and conferences and reading books and articles… all so I can succeed at Getting Any Kid to Be Adorable in Photos.

3. Which leads me to this one. LET IT BE. John Lennon (or is it Jack Malik?!) couldn’t be more right. I want you to sit back and relax. I want you to read a magazine. I want you to check in on Facebook and tell the world how cute your kids’ photos will be because - oh, look at them! And this amazing photographer has them in the palm of her hands. (too much?)

Let them be. I’ll do my job and they’ll be kids. And I promise you some breathtaking images with your precious little sweethearts looking their best.

Quick before they grow up! Let’s get your kiddos’ session on the calendar before summer is over. My weekends are filling up fast, so let me know if you’re interested in scheduling a session.
