#TBT | Elm Grove Family Portraits

Welcome to another Throwback Thursday family session…. and this is the world’s most resilient people. Why, you ask?

This “beautiful fall day” was actually SO WINDY AND COLD that we could have reasonably rescheduled their session. But no, they were insistent on trooping forward. (I was quite impressed!) In fact, I actually think there were flurries of snow later that day.

So Hailey called me and openly admitted that she and Dalton hadn’t had professional photos taken since their wedding… and she was due with their fourth child! It was definitely time. (Does this sound familiar to you? I know they’re not the only ones.)

So I worked to check off all her boxes….

  1. have a baby in September (Hailey did, NOT ME)

  2. fall is their favorite season

  3. big, gorgeous print of the family hanging in their home

  4. individual photos of the kids

Elliott gave me a challenge getting a nice, natural smile (especially in the cold) but WE DID IT. He’s a sweet kid, I like him. ;) PS the trick is to make them laugh. No matter the cost.

Lydia was the charmer. She is a girly-girl to the core and would have posed and modeled for me allll day long. At one point I asked her to “sit like a mermaid” and she knew exactly what was expected of her. Like it was her calling.

Jonathan was the quiet one, but so kind-hearted. I feel like I asked him to something totally off the wall, he would have looked at me sideways and then… he would have complied.

And then there was the baby. Adrian was the best of all! We told him to lay there… and he DID! We told him to smile…. and he pooped! (Which for a baby is the same thing, lol.)

Here is the family portrait they chose to hang in their home. Isn’t that stunning?

Is it time for your family to update their portraits? Follow the tips that Hailey offered….

  1. were your last professional photos from your wedding?

  2. are your last family portraits so old they are missing children?

  3. is summer/fall/outdoor season coming?

  4. do you have a space on your wall that needs to be filled?
