Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is organized and patient. I usually guide clients in working with the federal government, which is notoriously disorganized and slow.
What is something people THINK they know about your job?
I think most people assume immigration attorneys simply fill out a few forms. Most of my days are full of consultations, issue spotting legal benefits and pitfalls, drafting memorandum and affidavits, and appearing in hearings and interviews. Only a small portion of my work involves completing forms.
Name one thing you WISH people knew about your job?
I wish people understood how important compassion can be in immigration work. The greater majority of people I serve want to live within the boundaries of the law, work hard, and protect their families. Whether it is a single mom with kids or spouses wishing to be reunited, most of my job involves keeping loved ones together.
Tell us a secret about your job.
I love kids in my office. I spend at least ten hours each workday away from my own daughter, and it's nice to see sweet, little faces throughout my day as I am missing hers.
