POSITION
Life Coach for Teens and Young Adults

WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Successful students facing big decisions about their future and feeling overwhelmed about the many opportunities available to them.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I essentially came to coaching in an official capacity via the martial arts. My children have been training in karate for many years, and our academy places a lot of emphasis on teaching life and communication skills as much as the self defense. Since I have always been enthusiastic about personal development, karate helped me to tie a lot of my previous life lessons together and brought me to a whole other level, especially once I began my own training.

Before I opened my business as a coach, I was serving new parents in the postpartum season, when they first brought their babies home. Looking back, it's really clear that I was coaching parents through an overwhelming transition, loving it and making a positive impact for those families. Due to the pandemic when in-home support was no longer an option, I made the difficult personal decision to shift my services.

I started out coaching adults, but as I developed this new business, it became clearer to me that I was being called to work with teens and young adults more and more. I feel honored to play a small role in the success stories of these future generations. These young people are passionate, empathetic, generous and far more capable and powerful than they even know.

WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I've heard people say that they think life coaches are going to tell them what to do, how to do it and when to get it done, whether it will actually work for them to get the result they want or not. Maybe there are coaches out there like that, but that's not what coaching is about for me. When I coach someone, my role is to listen to the story they're telling and help them see the story behind the story, and then the beliefs behind that.

My role as a coach is similar to what I did for new parents, and that is to offer a safe space to process complicated emotions or conflicting advice. I might offer some impartial suggestions or resources from my wealth of knowledge and experience. I essentially help my client to tap into their own knowledge, intuition and abilities so that they can then make decisions from a proactive, empowered place. And I do that in a variety of different ways based on the individual. Most of the time, I have no idea what's going to happen on a call with a client, and I'm often blown away by what we learn together.

NAME ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Most coaches have coaches, too. We're doing our own work on ourselves, and we might not have all the answers. And you don't want a coach who thinks they have all the answers. You want someone who can help you get to YOUR right answers. And that's what makes a great coach. Everyone should have the opportunity to work with a great coach, especially young people.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I love it when I'm talking to someone, and I follow an impulse to ask a certain question or for more information about something that seems small, and it leads to a powerful insight, new awareness or a total reframe for a client.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Invest in yourself without guilt. Be willing to learn from anyone.

What is the ONE book that you think I should read RIGHT NOW?
The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer
