Family Portraits Don't Have To Be So Serious

I love seeing all these big families together… it makes me so incredibly happy to know that they all cleared their schedules for one morning to have a portrait session. One small part of their day - for a lifetime of memories hanging on their wall.

Plus, I heard that the family I’m featuring below family got lunch out of the deal, too!

When we get together for your family portrait, I want to make sure that a few key things happen. They are pretty simple…

  1. I want to make you and your family look your best. This is why you hire a professional. I will arrange the group to look great and help pose you to flatter you the best.

  2. I want to photograph any and all combinations of family members. I’m here. So are you. So… let’s do this! Want the aunties with all the cousins? Great. Line em up! Want the siblings all together? Super! Quit pulling each others’ hair and smile for the camera (I have actually had to say that to ADULTS!) Do you want individual photos of your kids? Good, I already got them.

  3. I want you to have fun. You’re “supposed” to smile in photos, so why not enjoy the process, too? Why not make that smile as genuine as possible? Surely you didn’t choose me as your Favorite Boring Photographer - let’s have some fun!

Speaking of fun, this family had no shortage of laughs. I wanted to post a Sneak Peek for the Wilde clan and rather than a perfectly finished portrait, I’m sharing this. I think you can see why.

Are you ready to take the leap? Gather your family members together, pick a date and call me… consider family photos handled.

People think doing my job comes naturally to me, but it has taken me years to refine people skills.

Name one thing you WISH people knew about your job?

raise your hand if you love cake | happy birthday Sebastian!

Sebastian.

A charming, energetic little smiler.

Who likes cake.

This little boy came to me - well, he snagged a ride from his parents - for his one year portraits. We had quite the time… playing with blocks, pretending to sweep, climbing stairs, sitting on chairs and stools. And then… the big finale. The Cake Smash.

Sebastian is not shy around cake. He dove right in. And loved every second of it. (Ok, so did we!)

Afterwards mom and dad literally peeled his clothes off and put him into pajamas for a great, post-sugar-rush sleep.

Happy birthday, little one!

How did you get started in your field of work?
I opened my first astrology book when I was 11.  After 20 years of being a therapist and 30+ years of astrology studies, I figured out a way to sync my two talents.  I adore helping people get to new flashes of insight about their lives.  I can impact an individual more in one astrology session than in 3 months of therapy.

What is something people THINK they know about your job?
It’s not just the sun sign!  It’s so much more than the horoscope in the newspaper.  There are 10 planets and their angles and their positions in time and space that influence everything.  I take the chart of the sky the moment you took your first breath and decode the narrative of your natal talents and life path.

Name one thing you WISH people knew about your job?
Astrology is not fortune telling and it’s not fate.  It’s the ongoing planetary cycles interacting with your personal chart.  I give you information so you can make better life decisions.  Having a personal astrologer is an ongoing relationship.  I get consulted for relationship topics, parenting strategies, fertility, weddings, career decisions, and even year ahead forecasts.

What do you love most about your job?
My clients

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your industry?
Read a ton and find a mentor already in the field. Get a professional reading to see if they are a good fit for you.

What is the ONE book that you think I should read RIGHT NOW?
"The Essential Guide to Practical Astrology" by April Elliot Kent. Its a wonderful introduction book and her writing has a lot of humor.
