For the most part, people believe that marketing is about coming up with a clever way to tell people about your business. It's not. Marketing is about coming up with a clever way to express the BENEFIT of using your business. So, instead of talking about your business, you need to talk about how your business helps solve a problem for the customers. The magic phrase "WIIFM - What's In It For Me?"

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I'm where I am today because I kept following my passions without worrying about the HOW and WHAT. I studied English and Creative Writing at St. Norbert College without having an ideal career in mind. I stumbled upon a public relations internship with the De Pere Chamber of Commerce which I thoroughly enjoyed! After that, I had four more internships in social media and digital marketing. My final internship turned into my first job at a digital marketing agency in Appleton. There, I was able to combine my love for writing and words with digital marketing. After spending a few years in digital marketing, I discovered my passion for entrepreneurship and started my own business where I only offer content marketing service. 

WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
Sometimes people think I only post on social media, but it goes way beyond that! What I build with my clients is their content strategy to achieve their business goals and social media is just one part of that. 

NAME ONE THING THAT YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
 wish people knew that marketing is part of an experimental and researched-based process that grows your business. There is no one-size-fits-all. I have so many business owners ask "When is the best channel? When is the best time to post?" and the answer is it depends on your specific audience.  It does take some time and some trial and error before you find the best strategy for your business!

Theatre, film, performing arts groups, etc.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
After having a lifelong interest, and strong encouragement in the high school years. I decided to dedicate myself to performing.

First getting my Theatre BFA (Primarily musical theatre, but also studying stage combat, commedia dell-arte, shakespeare, dance, just to name a few) 

Followed up by an acting apprenticeship at Williamstown theatre festival.

WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
That it's straightforward. Audition, and either you get it or you don't. 

When in truth, you never stop training. You never stop learning. And you never stop struggling in some way or another. 

NAME ONE THING THAT YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
That there's always more than meets the eye.

People who've seen me dance don't always know about my singing or classical work.

The same for people who've seen my classical and other speaking roles.

Having an ace up your sleeve skill-wise can be nice, but it's also a double edged sword.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The variety and constant inspiration

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Don't let the initial rejections get to you. Every audition is a learning experience. And never be afraid to reach out.

I got started in my field of work because I was initially a client with Northwestern Mutual. After being a client for several years, I became intrigued with the profession because I have always had a passion to help others.

The one stigma I think people have towards my profession and possibly Northwestern Mutual is that we only sell life insurance, which is a false assumption.

In regards to Northwestern Mutual, we perform comprehensive planning. This is achieved through wealth and income protection, education planning, retirement planning, estate planning and business planning.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
What I love most about my profession is consistently meeting new people and helping them reach their financial goals.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
The advice I would give to someone starting out in my industry is do whatever is in the best interest of your client.
